Composite resins, typically referred to as "white fillings" or "tooth colored fillings" match the color of the teeth and are considered very esthetic. Composite material allows for a more conservative preparation of the tooth since less tooth structure is removed and the material is bonded to the tooth. At Eagle Crest Pediatric Dentistry, we use composite resins to restore teeth.
A stainless steel crown may be recommended on a back tooth when a cavity is large and compromises the tooth structure. In the cases of front teeth, crowns with white facing are used. Crowns may also be placed due to a cracked tooth or moderate-severe enamel loss. Crowns reinforce and protect the remaining tooth structure allowing it to continue to function normally.
